- Computer scientist and journalism professor and IPR associate Jessica Hullman was named the first Ginni Rometty Professor of Computer Science through an endowment gift from Rometty, alumna and retired executive chair of IBM.

- IPR developmental psychologist Emma Adam will serve as an associate vice president concentrating on the social sciences at Northwestern’s Office for Research.
- Melissa Simon, health disparities scholar and IPR associate, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM).
- Psychologist and IPR associate Steven Franconeri received a 2021 Cole-Higgins Award for outstanding teaching and advising from the McCormick School.
- IPR sociologist Beth Redbird was presented a Best Paper Award by the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining as a co-author of “Supporting COVID-19 Policy Response with Large-Scale Mobility-Based Modeling.”
- IPR social policy expert Sally Nuamah received the 2021 Best Paper Award in Intersectionality from the American Political Science Association’s Women, Gender, and Politics Research Section and its Race, Ethnicity, and Politics Section for her paper “Public Perceptions of Black Women and Girls and Their Punitive Consequences.”
- Pediatrician and IPR associate Craig Garfield was awarded a 2021 Aspen Institute Ascend Fellowship.
- Research by IPR statistician Larry Hedges, IPR economist Kirabo Jackson, IPR economist Charles Manski, economist and faculty adjunct Matthew Notowidigdo, IPR economist Diane Schanzenbach was cited in the committee’s scientific background paper justifying the 2021 Nobel Prize in Economics.
- IPR graduate research assistant Sebastián Kiguel received a National Academy of Education Spencer Dissertation Fellowship, which will support his research on reducing bullying and the impact of these efforts of students’ social and emotional development.

- Former IPR graduate research assistant Leah Salditch received the American Geophysical Union's Natural Hazards Section Award for Graduate Research.
- IPR graduate research assistant Sheridan Fuller was named an Equitable Growth Dissertation Scholar for 2021–22.
