Summer Biomarker Institute

Cancelled for 2012

We thank you for your interest in Cells to Society's Summer Biomarker Institute (SBI). Last year's SBI was a great success, and we gratefully acknowledge funding from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health and Human Development for it over the past five years.

Though funding has expired, we are hopeful that we will be able to host SBI again in 2013 as there is a continued high interest in incorporating biomarkers into survey research, recognizing the importance of this disciplinary training in the social and biomedical sciences.

The objective of this training institute has been to provide a hands-on introduction to state-of-the-art methods for integrating biomarkers into population-based, social science research, covering technical as well as conceptual issues associated with biological measurement in naturalistic settings. Participants acquire the tools necessary to make informed decisions about the appropriateness of specific biomarkers for their research agenda, to communicate effectively with potential collaborators about biomarker issues, and to engage in innovative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries.
